The FCC has repealed U.S. net neutrality rules. As a result of today’s vote, Internet providers have the freedom to restrict, or charge for, access to certain sites and services if they please. This also means that BitTorrent throttling and blocking could become commonplace once again, as it was a decade ago.

MPAA: Net Neutrality Rules Should Not Hinder Anti-Piracy Efforts

While millions of people were sending in comments urging the FCC to stop a looming repeal of current net neutrality rules, the MPAA focused on something else. In a recently submitted letter, the Hollywood group doesn’t argue for or against the proposals. It merely wants to ensure that future net neutrality regulation doesn’t hinder anti-piracy efforts.

Net Neutrality is Not a Pirates’ Fight Anymore

Today millions of people are standing up for net neutrality and an open internet. The ”Battle for the Net,” backed by companies including Amazon, Google, and Netflix, hopes to stop a looming repeal of current net neutrality rules. While the whole debate was kickstarted ten years ago when torrent users couldn’t download their favorite TV-shows, it’s no longer a pirate’s fight today.
